Minus 1

20-1 that is. Yes, Joshua is learning subtraction at school, but that is not what I am talking about.

I am talking about teeth! Joshua is now officially minus one tooth!!!! In other words, the night we got home from the beach he lost his first tooth!!!!!

It had been loose for over a week. And, everyday that he went to school with it loose I would say the same thing to him as I kissed him goodbye in the morning. . .

"Joshua, please DO NOT pull your tooth at school today. If it gets really loose, quit messing with it and wait until you get home. I want to be there when you lose it."

When he realized that his tooth was loose, he was excited to lose it at school. Evidently his teacher pulls their teeth and puts them in something that they can wear around their neck????? I'm not sure, but he wanted to lose his tooth at school. And, this bothered me because I did not want to miss it!!! So, I told him that he had 20 teeth, and he had plenty of teeth to lose at school. I wanted to be with him when he lost his first. When he realized that I. was. serious. about. it., he agreed. And, his tooth actually hung on much longer than I expected. . .

But, finally Daddy said, "Enough is enough," and he pulled that precious little emblem of babyhood out of my sweet son's mouth!
His sweet smile forever changed in an instant!!! Now he looks like this. . .
Here is a close up of the gap. . .

About a month ago, I had a feeling that it would not be long before he lost his first tooth, so I asked Erik to pick out a pillow for the boys to use. And, this is what he picked out. . .

Didn't he do a great job??? I love this sweet little pillow!!!

Another milestone.

My babies are growing up!!!!!

I felt the same way when my kids lost their first teeth. I wanted to be there. :) So, those first teeth are tucked into their baby books and the rest... well, I have a whole collection of baby teeth in my dresser drawer. That's kind of gross, maybe, but I have a hard time throwing them away. :D

Our kids' kindergarten teachers (10 and 12 years ago) had little vests for the kids to wear on their first day being toothless. They also got to bring home a big button that said "I have a hole in my smile."
Oh the precious memories your blog posts bring back to me.

That is such a cute post! My daughter recently lost her tooth at Chick-fil-A, but unfortnately it went down with one of her nuggets. :) I love that I was there when it happened though, so I totally understand.

I believe Erik is practicing dentistry without a license there!

After their first tooth, my girls NEVER want me to pull their baby teeth. If it weren't so funny, I could get my feelings hurt. I think everyone who works in my office has pulled one of my kids' baby teeth!

Excited for you, Erik, and Joshua for reaching this rite of passage!

What a sweet milestone! We discovered about a week ago that Milena has 2 loose teeth (bottom 2). It totally caught me by surprise...I just wasn't expecting it yet. I guess I should have (she'll be 6 in Dec, but in my mind that would happen when she was already 6). She is SO excited about it! It looks like one of them will come out really soon!

Well of course Jim looked forward to pulling Christina's and Jonathan's. I video taped them losing their first tooth. Talk about DRAMA! Jim has used pliers too. I told Jim if you have to get the pliers then it is not ready. Needless to say, they tell me when they have a loose tooth, they tell me not to tell Dad and now they pull it. Can you tell Jim is fascinated with loose teeth?!

Hi! I live in a sweet country home overflowing with love and laughter. I have been blessed to journey these days beside a man that I love, respect, and admire. He is my soul-mate and best friend. Together we are seeking to raise our seven children to be lovers of God, to be wise and discerning, and to be all that our sweet God created them to be.
